saginaw bay
« on: Mar 10, 2015, 06:03 PM »
Can anyone give me a report on the current ice conditions on the bay?  We are planning on heading over tomorrow through the weekend if the conditions are conducive.  We are planning on leaving from Linwood but any other launches are also possibilities.  Thanks I appreciate any help.

Ice is decent. Cracks are jacked up bad.  I would say it not a quad friendly at this point. I would be concern with the thin spots south of LW that were open 4 weeks ago as well as the crib area.

Check out michigan-sportsman, there is a bay thread with a ton of reports sometimes every couple of minutes. A good bunch of sportsman on there giving good reports. The bay is a tricky think, you must treat it with respect, especially this time of year. There is going to be a bunch of rescues I am afraid the next 10 sdays with this weather. I have been out there 3 time and did well. Good luck and BE SAFE
You cant have everything,,,where would you put it

Crack in Linwood is jacked up.  The ditch at Linwood Rd is flowing as is the creek at the marina. You need to go south to get across there.  True fact.

I would try to get on out by the crane at lbm, there was two feet of water at the ramp. I hit it at 30 mph with my sled ...not sure if there was a bottom.
Last night was my last trip for the year. The ice is good offshore but the shore is going fast. The crack crossing south of Linwood was no problem. Be careful out there.

This from LBMC last night around 10:00pm

Closing the south parking lot at the Linwood Beach Marina bridge early a.m. tomorrow (Thursday). Ditch flowing strong under bridge, past gas dock, and by launch ramp. Guys coming in tonight pushing a bunch of water on the marina ice. Conditions changing rapidly.
