There is a good chance one of those hooks is yours Frank.  I am sure you remember that.
Had the same thought myself when I first read the post.  ;D

Nice bows great job getting after them. Just wondering how you had time to count 5 hooks, take a picture and get the slob back into the water before it froze up? Were you in a heated hardside or popup?

A heated hardside. And the hooks where obvious. As  4 had leaders hanging out of his mouth

I was wondering about this last night.... was there any sign of rust or degrading in the 4 previous hooks?

I'm going to give that mature hen more credit than some. She broke off at least four attempts on her life.  ;) Not every fish can say that.

IMO, there is only around three things that drive fish.
The first is food.

No rust on 2 that i was able to get out i cut as much off the leader on the other two i couldn't get to without harming her and let her go to get caught by someone else or hopefully me next time, she was a real treat. I have got into some really nice rainbows this year she is just barely breaking top 5.

Kudos for doing what you could for her and sending her back down the hole.

Took the day off today to help move my grandparents later this morning. Had a few hours so figured Id try to fish for a couple. Bait stop only had 3 half dead shiners and suckers left.  :(

I almost said the hell with it but I havent fished much at all this season so i took the 3 semi dead shiners and figured id use eggs on the other line.

Surprisingly caught 2 bows (only 18") on the shiners and both had old octopus hooks in the lips. One had one plus mine. The other had 3. Alot more pressure here the past couple years thats for sure.

Congrats on your catches.  Real healthy looking fish!

4 snaps.... What's everybody using for leader test??? This would seem to be a strong case for 6lb.

The first hook got em in the brain, and gave em severe memory loss!  ;D

Someone may have been cutting the leader like they tell you to do with salmon? We're they cut off close to the mouth?

I use 6lb and usually dont have a problem.  The hooks  I saw today looked like they were cut close.  Most likely from a quick release when someone might not have had pliers etc?
