Beautiful ice and some action at Metacomet Wednesday
« on: Feb 22, 2015, 01:47 PM »

Last night's storm not withstanding, 4" of snow, slush was frozen solid. Made for a nice day and easy walking. Couple bows on the jig rod, plenty of bluegills. Not much on the traps, couple track stars ripped off a mile of line and dropped the shiner.

Nice fish!
I have never been to Metacomet. is it typically trout, or is there a good variety?
In it for the fight.  Catch and Release

Trout, perch, bass pickerel...the usual. My PB largemouth came out of there last year at 7lbs. They used to stock salmon, guess there's a chance of a holdover. Its a nice spot with pretty good access. Wednesday was definitely a slower than usual day there.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like a good lake. I'll have to give it a try in the future.

Yeah man it was beautiful. I'm off tomorrow, just trying to figure out where I'm going to go. Maybe back to metacomet, might road trip to West Hill in CT. Looks like it's gonna be reeeally cold just about anywhere.

It's worth a shot. I always do better there through the ice than off the boat for some reason. The north shore has some really defined weed lines, and 150 yards off the launch at 10 to 11 o'clock where it starts to drop off seems to be a good area too. Good luck!

Nice job.  That same exact jig setup is a lake trout murderer provided the plastic is from berkley!

Would you believe me if I said that was a 12" hole and a 4" Fin-S fish on a 1/2 oz head?

Yeah I wouldn't believe me either...

I did grab some white power tubes the other day. POssibly heading to lake george next week. Subzero temps kept me away last week.

A jig of that size certainly can be used at LG!  Shoot me a pm and if I'm up there you'll have to join us!  Last weekend was brutal!

Thanks man. I'm trying to make days off and the weather line up and it's not going well this season to say the least. I know it's late to freeze...does Lake George stay iced up later in the season or does it thin quickly for the same reasons it freezes late?

It's only slow to freeze because of its size and depth.  There will be ice there for some time.  I fully expect to jig a april fools laker!
