Sites for tip up building supplies
« on: Feb 19, 2015, 10:16 AM »
Can you guys recommend any sites for buying hardware/supplies to build some tip-ups?  I'm thinking about trying it for the first time, looking for a good place that has spools, flags, springs, etc, or maybe even kits.  Thanks in advance.

Kind of off topic but I like catching fish on a rod vs. a tip up so I made alarms that hold my bobbers and go off when the bobber is pulled in. I have a couple heavier rods that are not good for jigging so I set those out and wait for the buzzer and the fight is generally more fun that way. Shoot me a pm if you want pictures.

Fish USA has some parts but not all you need . Spools, flags, drags. You would have to find tubes/wire
10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish .....im a 10% are you?

I get my parts from 40 up tackle, their prices and shipping charges are real good, they're nice people to deal with, and have all the parts you'll need.  Here's the link, just scroll down until you see the parts.

Only problem with 40 Up is that you have to purchase a minimum of $30 or $35 so if you just need to replace a spool it is going to cost you!

I thought the same thing but I called them because I only needed flag clips, slide clamps, and tube clamps and they had no problem selling them to me and my order was only around $12.  The lady told me the $30 minimum is if they're selling to a dealer.

You can also buy parts directly from some of the tip up manufacturers. Jack Traps sells parts for their products... but they're as expensive as their tip ups.

Heritage Tackle also has a website.  They sell most parts except for the trip mechanism.  I made my own tip ups using these parts and fabricated the trip tube and bent the wire myself.  It is a little difficult to get the angles right on the wire but after a few failed attempts I figured it out.

Thank you for the link - very good pricing compared to my local hardware store.
Trust me, when the Zamboni driver says "You won't catch fish through that hole", he knows of what he speaks.
