fl-18 issues
« on: Feb 12, 2015, 03:20 PM »
I was out the other day and when I turned my vex on and put it in the whole I had what looked like interference everywhere and it was not showing the bottom accurately. But I kept trying it it again and after probually 10 minutes it started to work just mine. Does any one no what is possiblly wrong or was it just a fluke thing? I did check to make sure all the connections were tight and they were. Any help appreciated thanks.

I should add that I was by my self and there wasn't anyone for about 2 miles so it wasn't interference from other units

Possibly a battery getting low? Just a thought.

Battery issues are a number one culprit of many issues so check that out ...was the transducer "wet"  ...may be air bubbles or ice on the transducer if you hole hopped in frigid temps wipe the transducer on your bibs. I usually just turn off/on the unit if wonky reading occur ...you don't happen to be running a triducer ?

Was it early in the morning? If so could have been plankton cloud rising off bottom. Will clutter your screen up. Make sure ducer connection is good and battery is charged. Also like mentioned make sure bottom of ducer is free of ice and is hanging straight down hole.

It was around 10 am and 10 below so ice build up on ducer maybe. The battery is brand new this season only about 100 hours on it so I don't think that's it usually get 3-4 seasons out of 1. I have been known to cut holes at an angle so the ducer could have been shooting through the bottom bit of ice too since we have around 3 feet of it and when hole hoping I don't always let enough cord out. And it is 12° not tri beam.

happened to my buddy the other day had to undo the ducer and screw it back in . it worked for him.    with my fl18 the power cord to the screen is cracked and has condensation on it (green color) I have to clean it sometimes to get it to run till the new cord comes in.  so check all cords and battery for condensation too

I am going with ice on the puck ....by the time you start messing with things it fixes itself like magic ...happens to me hole hopping(in frigid  temps) and you have to break the ice and clean the hole that puck gets a skim coat of ice till it dissipates in the water .

I just have never seen it like that before I hole hop most of the time but it might have just been a little thicker ice and that made it seem worse than it really was. Thanks for the help and happy fishing!
