Last day in Vermont
« on: Feb 14, 2015, 06:59 PM »
Tomorrow (Sunday) will be my last day in Vermont and I have all day to fish. I fished the gut and caught a ton of yellow perch and 3 smaller pike. I'm looking to catch a pike a little bigger can anyone point me in the right direction who has been out recently or heard reports of anyone going out ? I am staying at burlington by shelbourne bay, I'm willing to drive an hour if I have to, any help would be great !!

my Windfinder website says 21 MPH winds with 43 MPH gusts in the morning,if you have ever been out on the ice in that kind of weather, with all this loose snow on the ice,you would stay home.period

If you stay near the launch area of malletts bay yes, there will be some shielding. But i would not go past the two points.
What?? fish are biting, I'm gone

So tomorrow is my last day up here and yall think this wind is too much for me to be able to fish? I have an Eskimo quick fish 3 and a bunch of tip ups and want to fish. Do you think no1 will really be out there ?

Temps near 0, and wind gusts approaching 40 MPH.  I'm guessing your shanty will NOT have fun out there.  Not to mention with the wind chill, baiting tipups would be an absolute nightmare.

Good luck with tomorrow.  Without a hard side shack and one hell of a heater you won't catch me anywhere near that lake with winds and temps like we're supposed to have.

not only that, but the blowing snow will fill your tip-up holes with snow and will make it nearly impossible to fish,I have been there before and it is no fun.one time during the Benson Derby the wind came up so hard and fast that it blew all my big wooden underwater tip-ups out of their holes and stripped all the line off the reels because the hooks caught on the edge of the holes.what a mess. I saw it coming and hid inside my shanty which was tied to a three wheeler,The wind dragged the wheeler until it got stuck on a crack in the ice.then my shanty left the ground while I was still in it, tethered only to the three wheeler,I was a foot off the ice dangling in mid air.I had never seen the wind blow like that before in the winter.this is a TRUE story.Maybe some of you older guys remember that day.Anyway,my point is,it ain't worth it. However, good luck if you go.
