MyFishFinder.com Just like iceshanty but warmer
I have since learned a lot more about my machine. For 1 thing I do not use the flasher mode. I use all manual settings. I tune out the top 4 feet. It is still not good in deep water. Say 30 ft or more. Even with zoom it does not pick up signals good. I have just come to believe that I will use another flasher when in deep 30-50 ft water. Getting the xducer down to the bottom of the ice also was an issue.
Thanks Boder. Why would you say you aren't completely sold on it yet? Like I mentioned, it's my first nice sonar unit, so don't have anything to compare it with. I've used friends' Vexilars and have basic fish finders for my boat. I was thinking the screen clutter would be a lot less than is has been so far. I've played with all of the aforementioned settings. I did find that zooming to the bottom of the water column removed the surface clutter, but doesn't zooming on the bottom defeat the purpose of being able to see the entire water column some times?
Bee, did you turn the surface clarity setting off completely? Also noise rejection if not needed
Use shallow water mode when fishing less than 100 ft. Leave surface clarity to off and set upper limit to 3ft so you dont see the surface clutter.
So are u saying to use shallow water mode instead of ice mode?
Had my chirp out tonight and it worked much better then my first outing. I was only in 10 fow this time. Used shallow water setting and black fish reveal. Had a little surface clutter but cleared it up with surface clarity in low. Used custom depth range as well. Only gripe about my unit tonight is that I wished the screen would scroll a little faster. Ping was set at fastest and frequency was high chirp. Scroll speed does not seem as fast as my x67c. Gonna try it out on some deep water lake trout fishing later this week.
