Hamlin Lake - Ludington
« on: Jan 21, 2015, 08:27 AM »
I am taking a mini-vacation next week to Hamlin Lake and work is paying!
Fishing Thursday, Friday, and early Saturday.
Staying on the south end of the west basin in the canal area.
Have a quad to move around some.
Anybody been out that way?  South Bayou?
Thanks in advance for the reply's.

Yikes!!  ONLY 5 gills isn't so good for that lakes reputation.....LOL
If anyone wants to PM I would be happy to hear some advice.
Thanks

I was up there the 14th and 15th.  Fished upper Hamlin the first day.  Lots of moving around and lots of very small perch.  I didn't get a gill til mid afternoon with a couple nice ones near dark.  Ice was 8-10 inches.  Fished South Bayou the next day.  Got out a little late about 9:00am.  stayed til 4:00.  Only caught abut 9 gills with only a couple keeper sized.  (I don't keep em anyway)  I don't have electronics so I was fishing blind.  By the late afternoon there were 13 guys out there.  Getting a few.  I guy with electronics was doing a little better.  Said there were some suspended.  About 5-6 inches of ice.  I know it's a little old but there you go.    Jeff

Thanks Jeff -  Went last Thursday and Friday.
Thursday got out about 3 and fished out of North Bayou Marina.
No bites in the 10 to 20 foot we fished.  The wind was howling bad though.
Friday morning went up to the north basing and went east from the launch, where are the spearing shacks are.
Caught about 50 fish, all 4 inch perch and a few shiners.  Lake is loaded with bait.
Guy in a shack speared a #40 pound muskie that morning when we were out there.  HUGE FISH!!!
After lunch moved west of the launch in deeper water 14 to 24 feet and caught, more bait.
Kind of a bummer as far as the fishing goes, but nobody was catching any blue gills that day we talked to.
Beautiful lake though, will head back up when this summer to troll for walleyes.

We fished the upper lake last Saturday morning with the exact same results. Drilled probably 50 holes and didn't get even one small gill. Stunted perch were everywhere.
