Warning SEBAGO LAKE Warning
« on: Jan 30, 2015, 02:59 PM »
Just got back from Sebago bait and I guess a warden was in earlier today and he sketched out a bad area on the lake. It showed an area from around ST. Joes extending To Fryes Island  as being dangerous. He wrote something to the effect that it just locked up last night. You can see the sketch at Sebago Bait  but I wanted to get the word out due to this snow. Tread lightly everyone and stay topside

I had heard that the big bay just locked up two nights ago.  I've been out in the general area you describe the last two weekends and there was 6-8" of good ice in most places, but some long and sketchy pressure ridges too.  With the pressure ridges plus the weight of new snow, I can see how there could be some hidden dangerous spots.

Hopefully it will all lock up tight with the cold temps coming in the next week.

That lake is probably the most treacherous I know of. The depth makes it that way & I'm surprised there has only been one machine though the ice so far. Bad situation to have a light skimming on the big bay & a light snowfall following.  With the volume of fishermen going out there, I hope they take heed to this original thread.   Thanks FS::)

I think I caught it trolling that Spring. Wasn't pretty

That explains why Portland water has a strange taste once in a while!  ::) ;D
