Identify this fish
« on: Feb 06, 2015, 07:31 PM »
Found this little guy with my shiners and suckers I just got. Whenever I get little ones I feed them to my Oscar. So I put a small shiner and this in there. Then I noticed its mouth is higher up unlike a sucker and it has tiny spikes or barbels on its back. Am I crazy because I have never seen a sucker like this.

Looks to me like a stickleback. Not uncommon to get them mixed in with fatheads and such.

Thanks guys. I've never even heard of it in all my years of fishing. My Oscar wants to eat him badly. He is totally ignoring the small shiner. Thanks again.

Got them in with my fat heads from the Log Cabins on Black Lake, crappies wouldn't touch them.

You can get a good look at a steak by sticking your head up a bull's a$$, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it??

Definitely a Stickleback. NOT a Darter. Look at this picture of a Stickleback and look at mine. Same spikes. The Darter's fins are different.
