I don't fish for trout but I think there's a big difference between what would make a good rod for a Brookie vs a Laker.

For rainbows I like a medium light action rod I use  Fenwick elite tech ml paid 25 for and it does the job just fine. For Lakers I like a medium heavy rod I have a thorns bros for that that was around 125 but have also used a Fenwick hmg in med action anfnit did the job you and thatbrod also cost around 25 bucks.

I was using my Walleye Sweetheart yesterday and caught a 15" brookie. Had another flop off when I got him above the hole and missed a few more. Too bad the season is closed on trout here, or I would've had a nice meal with just that one. The rod was perfect and I was really using it for panfish and a possible bass.  I typically use my Panfish Sweetheart when fishing waxies and the WS with crappie minnows. This way I can just switch rods without retying lures. Actually have several rods and take 3-4 wherever I go. But WS is perfect for trout the size you're targeting.

I use the TB Walleye Sweetheart for rainbow trout. It works great for a 5lb. to 10lb. fish. There still isn't enough stiffness to set the hook on a laker, even the small ones. They have a harder
mouth. I would lose quite a few at the hole. I got a beefy fiberglass rod specifically for lakers because I have to set the hook harder when targeting them. If you go with a heavier rod you
sacrifice the feel that you would want for the smaller trout.
