I've been wanting to try one of the Bite Me Box Tip Ups, has anyone had any experience with them?

Heritage Lakers! can never have enough! ZERO wind flags, and they survived a beating through the years!  Below is the junk box of those that didn't make the cut.  Beaver dams, some 40 ups, etc.

HT Lakers       X2    Caught a lot of fish with them, Never a false Flag. And can get parts if you ever need them.

HT's Polar Therms for me.  I love everything about them.  Has an extendable flag so its easy to spot even in thick snow, round so it insulates the entire hole, and has a small storage compartment for extra weights, line markers, hooks, ect.  Frabill makes one that looks similar but I don't care for them at all.

Majority of my traps are Heritage. Lakers and Muskies. Pretty standard to use in the NorthEast. Every now and then I'll buy another brand/type of trap if something catches my eye, and give it a test drive; but they rarely stay in my basket very long. Always rely on my Heritage traps.

I agree that tip-ups seem to be regional and/or a name brand preference "thing" i.e. Can am vs Polaris, etc..LOL.

Over the years I've used them all and caught fish on them all.  However, I do really like beaver dams and will agree that quality control has gone down hill slightly, but Beaver Dam has excellent customer service!  Quick story -  My kids are getting to the age where they need their own equipment and I'm an anal guy that doesn't like tangles or people messing with his stuff.   So, I venture to fleet farm last december (2013) to buy 3 new Beaver dams that are on sale for my son.  Him and I rigged each one up and out he goes.  That night he comes home with 1 spool missing and parts of another beaver dam... He said they just fell apart?  I sent a picture and and description to Beaver dam customer service.  They called me by 10am the next day and had new parts in my hand 2 days later.  That was impressive and earned future business from me, my family and friends!  ps. I have no affiliation with uncle josh/beaver dam other than a user of their products.

Happy fishing!

Can't understand why people wring their hands over + $30 for a tipup. Try and get a decent open water rod and reel combo for less than a hundred bucks. I'm extremely frugal and make my own gear, but arguing over the price of ice gear versus quality astounds me. It's all very cheap, relative to summer fishing, which I assume most here also do.

Perhaps its because there is a lot more engineering and cost of materials that goes into something like a decent rod and reel not to mention R&D etc.  Lot more moving parts.

60 dollars for a couple pieces of wood and metal is outrageous.

Been using HT Polars with zero issues. Have 4 that are at least 25-30 years old and still work like new. Just got a couple Polar Therms and they are great. Anyone having issues with wind flags, be sure to face the tipup so the wind pushes the flag towards the shaft if at all. I usually set the flag in the groove (heavy trip) and have no problems. 24" pike trip it. Have a couple of older heritage wooden type that I think I got for $5.00 each and they still work fine also. IMO, the best tip-up is the one you have in the right hole at the right time with the right bait.
Don't fall in. Unless it's a big one.
