Gas Prices
« on: Jan 18, 2015, 08:21 PM »
So I fish alot and travel to get there. I thought I would never see gas under 3 bucks again and now I filled my truck up on E for 37 bucks under 2 bucks a gallon.  How long is this going to last? Not cheap to fill a full size truck and bassboat with a 3 liter V6 on the back of it. Thought I may have to buy a Prius and get a canoe to keep fishing. When the gas went to 4 dollars a gallon that started the last recession IMO....hope that does not come back. Any thoughts on this subject?

OPEC is selling below $50/bbl to discourage the oil independence that fracking and the "drill baby drill" attitude made possible.  They will drive costs below domestic production break-even, put everybody in ND out of work, ruin the Russian economy, and then jack things up to $150/bbl and your bass boat will be in drydock permanently.  If the US spent one-tenth of our annual tribute payments to the Saudis to develop long-range multi-source energy independence, oil would be a lubricant instead of a fuel, and the whole Mideast could go eat sand and happily fight among themselves without our involvement.

The fuel savings are nice.  Just wish my truck didn't use that expensive diesel.  Don't understand why diesel is higher then gas.

There appear to be many stories, a couple being- diesel and heating oil come from similar cut of crude so in winter with heating oil demand it puts pressure on diesel price. Recent EPA requirements for low sulfur diesel make it more expensive and fewer refineries stayed in the game to make it.

The EPA changed diesel fuel requirements.  Low sulphur and oxygenated.  Refineries put up multi billion dollar units to make the fuel compliant.  The type that explode and kill people.  Of course the exploding thing is demonstrated after the units are being constructed, so now administration and engineering office buildings must be relocated.  New entry roads, parking lots,  guard shacks.  You get the idea.

Somebody has to pay.

They know they have everyone by the B### because diesel fuel is used to transport everything anyone buys and is used for tractors to grow the food. So by not lowering it everyone still is paying higher prices. I filled my truck up with diesel this weekend for 2.50 and that is the lowest I have seen in a long time

dgb -- I recommend you use recreation gas for your boat and all non-auto gas powered machines.  The lunacy of ethanol in the gas destroys lines and carb parts, making it a $2 BILLION a year industry for marine repair just because ethanol is dictated by the EPA.  Rec gas cost a lot more, BUT it is worth it.  My lawnmower has never run better, along with boats, chain saw, etc.........

Hey Jim - Lets have the private sector develop this new fuel source, as the Government has already lost billions through their inherent corruption trying to "invent" this new fuel.  ;)

Hopefully gas remains at or below $2.50 a gallon and the economy can start to grow again so we can all afford to take a fishing vacation in Michigan!!

Last time I bought it in November it was like $4.25 !!!  Yikes!
Filled the 19ft Century that was empty and all my gas cans for quads, tractors, etc.
Cost me about $130!!  DOUBLE Yikes!!
But my machines run so much better it is worth it, regular gas was about $3.65 at the time.

Here's a very interesting article. According to this view, we'll have low oil prices for a very long time. The Saudis have the most easily accessible reserves and have previously turned them on and off in order to control prices. Now it seems they have decided not to hold their oil off the market in order to raise prices because they're afraid it will be their oil left in the ground when the oil age ends.

"Oil will be left in the ground. The Stone Age came to an end, not because we had a lack of stones, and the oil age will come to an end not because we have a lack of oil.”

I looked at all the cars on 696 today, and thought about all the money that people are saving. I can almost afford to start smoking again.  :o
But don't quote me on that. I have a drinking problem, I keep running out of beer. I've always been a little bit crazy, but its kept me from going insane.

2000 K3500 w 7.4L - I'm one happy camper with gas now at $1.89 near home. BTW I got a Meijer $.50 off per gallon with their MPERKS and filled with 25+ gals at $1.49/gal for $38 - WOW!!!

As some have said with gas cost over $4 I have had $100 fill ups, so its great to have the low prices, at least for now. Feel bad for the oil field workers getting the pink slips, but just hoping to see some other consumer product costs down (food).

Me also at $1.75....for about the same total.....this is too good to be true for how long i wonder. I am also in the process of buying a new home. Back about 15 years ago I bought a 96K home for a monthly payment of about 900 a month with taxes and insurance. I am now buying a house for 146K at the same monthly payment becuase of the lower interest rates. The problem though my wages are not increasing at the rate of inflation....when is that going to change...don't want to find another job to just get a pay increase.

Maybe all the things that increased in price because of high gas prices will go back down now; wishful thinking I suppose. Anyways its nice to be able to travel again, that was a tough period we went through. If the economy takes another dump, investors will drive the price of oil up again. So much for battery operated cars.

While I like to keep politics and heavy topics out of rec time, I think it's good to see true Americans show some concern. After last 2 elections I was beginning to lose hope. Remember that our " sportsmanship" group of hunters and fishers has the power in our wallets. Mi raised non res license fees and had to back down prices in order to regain an important source of revenue for the state. Drill locally, shop locally and buy American whenever possible. Back to fishing! Hope you all catch enough to feed family and friends!

AND its easier to get a new job if you have a job, silly as that is........
