Fixed blade jiffy 30 ?
« on: Jan 19, 2015, 03:01 PM »
I have a chance to pick up one and the blades don't look bad but can you get them hand sharp ?
Is there someone around central vt or NEK that sharpens them or should I just save up and get a new one ?

Buy a new one and get the old one sharpened, not sure where in your area.

Google:jiffy ice auger sharpener

You'll get some results from that if you think you want to try and sharpen it yourself.

Has anyone used a hand held sharpener like this one? Jiffy Auger Blade Sharpener

If you know someone who works in a machine shop or has access to a tool grinder (not a woodshop grinding wheel, a real tool grinder) I think the angle on the business end is 15 degrees. I made a sharpening block out of aluminum stock and just set the grinding table to 15 deg. Mounted the blade to the block so I had a nice flat surface to set on the table and grind away only enough to get a good edge. Mine works slick and sharpened my blade good as new.
