Perch weekend
« on: Jan 12, 2015, 09:20 AM »
Went out for Perch this weekend. Ended up having a pretty good morning followed by a very slow afternoon. We got on them right away and had pretty steady action throughout the morning, the bite died around noon and they got very tough after that. We were able to coax 1 or 2 into biting before leaving for the day. Probably could have moved a bit deeper or to a different spot and gotten into them again but we were being lazy. Ended the day with 32 keepers all 7-10 inches. Fried them up for the awful game yesterday... at least we had perch to eat. Also my buddy caught one that we dubbed shovel face.

The biggest ones of the day. The bottom one is right at 10 inches.

Shovel face.

Rat, yeah we should have moved around. We were being a bit lazy because the wind started picking up, that hut was calling to be set up so we could enjoy our lunch out of the wind.

Cool. I decided to go south instead of north.  Just wanted to try some new places-

Understandable Slayer, I like to explore as well. Only my second time fishing there so I'm counting it as exploring! Still figuring the place out.

I really should have more experience there considering I live so dang close. Too many fun things to do and not nearly enough time!

Ha, yeah it's was a strange one. Tasted just fine though. We also tried frying up a couple egg sacks for the first time ever. They weren't too bad. Definitely not something I'll seek out but I wouldn't refuse one in the future.

I tried the egg sacks last year. Rolled them in flour, fried in butter. Decent, not bad. But not sure I'd take the time to do it again.

One of mine from last week was stubby snouted.  Maybe it is a local genetic mutation.  Glad they are still biting.  I need to go again once this head cold lifts.

I'm pretty sure it's a mutation. That or getting bullied when they're fry. I'm planning on getting a few more trips there as well. Hopefully the ice sticks around for a while.

Lots of times the dam area opens up quite a ways but you can still ice nearer the inlet.

Thanks for the info Slayer. If I don't go to the group meet at CC I'll probably end up fishing there again instead.
