Frabill arctic fire tip-up
« on: Dec 29, 2005, 07:16 AM »
I just got 3 of these from my kids for Christmas. For the price ($7.99 on sale at Gander Mountain) they are awesome. Beaver dams they are not but they are better than any of the other tip-ups in the 10-15 dollar price range.
Hard water, cold beer, and a warm shanty make for a good day!

They are nice for the money. The only complaint I've had on them is that they jump a little when set. Put one in a 5 gallon bucket top and set it off - you'll see what I mean.

So I suggest that when you set them up, wedge them into the snow/slush a little so they don't move.

I simply weighted the end opposite the flag and it ended the jumping. I am not going to say they catch more fish or anything. Just that they work well for what you pay.

I just bought 4 of them, after examining many tipups in the $5 to $15 range.   They're a heck of a good value and work very well.

What did you weight yours with?

I took some lead tape and wrapped it around the cross bar on the end opposite of the flag.

Worked well but I think that the spring on the flag will work itself in and I should be able to remove that tape once that happens.

Out last night and caught a nice limit of 'eyes. (of course in these days it was only three fish in the slot)
