What do most do with their batteries in the off season?   Does any one exercise them?

I charge mine once a month.  Some people use them on the open water also.  I never did that with mine yet.

I keep mine topped up on a regular basis during the off season. In season, let it get to room temp and recharge asap after every use. Battery life is rated for the number of charge/discharge cycles. Also the less you run them down between charges the better. Deeply discharging a battery is bad for it's longevity. Think of bending a hanger back and forth repeatedly, (not good). Exercising a battery will just shorten the life of the battery. If you actually need to use it then that's fine but running up and down for no reason doesn't do the battery any favors.

I charge it before i put it away and then 6 months after. It only needs a few minutes of charge tho. I'll charge / check it, again about a month before we get ice.
