I was wondering if a fuel stabilizer should added to your 2 cycle auger fuel mixture?

I don't think I ever added it to the auger fuel mix before.....I sort of thought that a good 2 cycle oil might provide fuel protection by itself.

Been running 50:1 in my StrikeMaster LazerMag 8" for most of its life....using a NAPA synthetic 2 cycle oil & premuim gas.
But NAPA started carrying AMSoil synthetic this year.
So after all the positive reports over the years regarding AMSoil.........I'm trying it this season.

thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Jeff

Good choice JeBa, on Amsoil Sabre 100:1 Synthetic 2 cycle lubricant, which contains fuel stabilizer.

Be comforted in knowing you now have the best protection available for your equipment.

I've used only that since 1988.    ;)2

Idahogator what if the engine calls for a 40:1 fuel mixture is it alright to use the Amsoil 100:1 mix?

The oil manufacture has made better oil than the minimum requirements specified by the engine maker.     ;)2

An example: my chain saw states  16:1   per 1975 manufacture ~ I've run it 80:1 on Amsoil since 1981,  maybe a hundred cords, no problems.

An easy way to get 80:1 is put 1.3 oz of 100:1 2 cycle oil, Amsoil Sabre, in a container then put in 8/10 gallon non-Ethanol gas. Dangerously close and no smoke.

Use  premium non-oxygenated(ethanol)  fuel.

Add  some  seafoam.

No  problems  for  my  small  engines, or  sleds, atvs,  marine  motors  using  this   combo....

I'm not proud of this, but I mixed up some fuel with Stabil and Sea Foam. Going on the 3rd season with the same fuel. She fires right up on it too.

well - looks like a trip to the small engine shop.

The Lazermag wouldn't start or stay running....probably a gummed up carb.

That'll teach me to be lazy about long term storage.

Same thing I do plus the bottle of jiffy oil for my auger.

     Isn't it amazing?      :o

How some owners reluctantly move up to synthetic lubricants for their equipment, and then are astounded at the better performance ?

I've often heard it said "Jeez, why didn't you convince me sooner?"        ;)2

Just ensure that you use gas without ethanol, use a high grade oil designed for two strokes, and I add a bit of Seafoam. It helps to get rid of any water that may be in your tank, and acts as a fuel stabilizer.

i use sea foam in all my small engines. its the only additive i know you can add to 2 cycle and i use it in my boat motor too.
i use pro mix 2 cycle oil for air cooled engines. one mix works all fuel/oil engine, so no need to mark cans. been using it for years.
never any problems from any small engines here.
never used fuel stabilizer.

15 years averaging six cords per year on a Stihl chainsaw and I've never used any fuel stabilizer and I will need to rebuild the carburetor for next season. Going on 8 years using a Strikemaster
with the Tecumseh engine and never used fuel stabilizer and it still runs like a champ. I guess I'm a moron because I don't drain the tank or run the the engine dry and add whatever. If I have
a half tank left over from last season in either tool and use the gas from last season to top it off, they still run fine. Maybe it's the 2-stroke oil I use, Sthil. I'm not saying it's proper but I've yet
to see any issues with how I've been doing things. I'm not advocating this method, but I have no worries.

Two strokes that don't get used much get lacquer in the carb. Seafoam or other similar additives cut that down significantly. You should always run some rich seafoam premix and then drain your fuel prior to storage.

okay, i pm'd you and your replies suggest use synthetics, i have a quart of royal purple i bought last year on amzn. it gets high rated reviews, just never bothered to try it yet,, you say if i use the right blend/mixture with today's 93 octane gas at the pumps here which is 93 octane fuel ethanol , my gas auger will give me sex? ;D

I'll take the 5th.     :woot:

Hm, I've gotten different mileage by only using Amsoil, which is complete. I've added nothing else, fuel never goes sour/bad, has sat idle more than 4 years in the saw, which is 38 years old, started with two pulls, runs like new and cuts 12 cord/year and has never been taken apart or to a shop.      ;D

I don't consider using stabilizer in anything until it's time to store. Fresh gasoline is the best left alone. There are plenty of additives already in gas from the pump for frequent general use.

Is there any reputable research that shows that any of the various fuel stabilizers actually work as advertised ?
