Any Predictions
« on: Dec 24, 2014, 07:01 AM »
About possibly getting out on small ponds for the new year? It looks like were going to get a fair few nights with lows in the teens after this warm spell for Christmas. There is near safe ice for me where I am planning to fish, So even if it does wipe all the ice out, I assume 3 nights of the low teens and days in the lower half of the 30's would allow for some good fishable ice, Don't ya think?
Oh the weather outside is frightful but the cusk are so delightful, long as I can't feel my toes! Let snow let it snow let it snow!

It looks like next Monday it's going to start cooling down, I'm hoping to possibly get out New Years Eve

If it stays cloudy not sunny, and it gets cool at night, I think the ice thats been fishable will be damaged somewhat from this rain, but it will bounce back after a few solid cold nights. The wide open lakes....... well thats a whole other issue. 2 trap lakes are gonna be in trouble for a long time IMO.

After Christmas or the days following it, the temp will dip down to teens at night and mid 20's during the day. I don't know who long it will last but as 800stealth  said, the bigger lakes will be in trouble for a while.

LOL... Hitting the eggnog early Brookie? I haven't posted to this thread yet... Although I do agree it's gonna be a short season for the big lakes.

I agree with Guinea. As for the big lakes, most years (not the last 3, but most) we were putting the bobhouse out a week or two before the Rotary Derby. We did fish the big lakes sooner but didn't get enough ice for the shack. Until then.........

10 day does look good however you can't really trust them, very often they are significantly inaccurate. But you are right, the forecast from December 27+ is looking good!
