« on: Dec 21, 2014, 02:43 PM »
to let you some of you know the new style runners will not fit an old X2 , they are full 1/4" wider and are u shaped they will not fit the slot and there is no bevel , so back they are going , called cabelas and no sweat returning and told me i should bring this to clams attention what great customer service , so in the morning i will give them a call ,maybe I will have to buy at a plastics dealer and make my own, we shall see

there has to be a cheaper alternative to spending $50 on a couple strips of plastic

I received some uhmw strips that I made into runners, got six years on them. Need to change out maybe at the end of this season. How many years should I be expecting on clam runners?

A lot of the small snow plows nowadays have plastic cutting edge.  Find a used one and make new runners for your shack.

Freddy - I either got mine from US Plastics or McMaster & Carr, cant remember, one of em had better shipping options. I used 1/2 by 3in I believe. I'll check when I get home. It was 6-7 years ago...

Filet how long are they and how thick / wide. I have some pcs. laying around if they will work they could be yours for nearly nothing, Let me know the sizes I am coming up your way in a few days.

UHMW - wonder if that is what all these shelter manufacturers are using for material in their runners.  I worked on a dairy farm years back and we had purchased a set of UHMW covers for a 5-bottom plow set.  They lasted two seasons of 300 acres each.  Hard to believe we could make that kind of wear on the bottom of a shelter sled, mostly on ice and snow.  Same stuff is/used to be, available a farm machinery dealers - used to line conveyors. etc.

Fabricated runners for a Clam Guide with UHMW from US Plastics, used a forstner bit to countersink mounting holes. Fastened runners to the sled using pop rivets with backer washers, applied a thin bead of silicone between sled and runners to keep things water tight.
