Building a Sled for Gear & Shanty
« on: Dec 22, 2014, 07:32 PM »
Here's one I'm sure that's been on before but for some of us we could use some info.  How about some ideas for building a sled for our gear and a shanty?  I met IceMike last year on Bass Lake and his was made of metal tubing and looked pretty good but I was thinking of seeing some other ideas.  Come on guys, let's see what you've got.

You don't have to read the whole thing, but the Smitty sled inspired all that

So that's the famous Smitty Sled.  Very cool.  Tonight I was watching a video of perch fishing on Lake St Clair and one of the vids had a sled very similar to this.  That's just what I was hoping to see.  OK, the skis.  Are those military combination downhill/cross country skis?  If so, where's the best place to purchase them and at a reasonable price?  Looks pretty simple to build if you have the skis.

Al (Abishop) pulled my gear off bass Lake last year while I tugged on his sled. Al now has a icemike sled to pull his sugar shack around.
Give me some dimensions and I'll see what I can do. I could even do a tow bar deal to hook onto the Polaris. We know a rope doesn't work so well ;D

OMG Mike, I got to the point I was afraid to stop cause your gear was banging the back of the Polaris so much.  I do have a small two person shanty and now the wife is thinking she might want to try some ice fishing.  If she does, first impressions are best so I better make it as comfy as possible for her.  Wishing my shhanty was bigger but I tried to keep the cost down back then.  Never thought I'd get married to a woman that's adventurous LOL Another option I thought I might try is my pop-up deer blind.  Takes a few minutes to pop up and not really that much different than some of these other shanties I've seen.  I'd need to get some ice stakes or build my own to put that on the ice.  A big wind come alone and I'm chasing it across the lake LOL.  But I'll get some measurments of the other shanty to you and see what we can come up with.  I do kind of like your's because it sets up high off the ice.
