buddy or big buddy heater
« on: Dec 27, 2014, 01:40 PM »
So I just got a Cabela's 6x6. Probably only going to bring it along to get out of the wind on really cold days or if im gonna do a lot more jogging than tip up fishing that day. Would the regular buddy heater be big enough? Fleet farm has a good sale on both right now. Like I said I won't be using it all the time so I don't know if it's rally worth it to me to buy the big buddy
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

I have a 6x6 tent and a clam XL 6000.  My portable buddy works fine for the 6x6, but is not enough for the 6000.  Stepped up to the big buddy for this year in the 6000.

Hey Ravo, Ken from here on the shanty was heating the large 5 sided 360 degree cabellas with a coleman lantern and I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't inside but it was very warm and outside was about 15* and windy.

You might also look at the relatively new Hunter Buddy. It's midway between the Buddy and Big Buddy. I have a Buddy and it works fine in a 6x6 as long as you cover the skirt with snow or slush. Although I guess that would be true of any of the heaters. I don't care for the Big Buddy because it has two bottles, I don't have a 5 or 11 pound bottle set up. Anyway, the Hunter Buddy looks pretty good to me.

The regular portable buddy will do the trick.  I use one in a 6x8 and have yet to be cold down to -14.  Do yourself a favor though and get a big bottle and the adaptor...buying 1 pound bottles all the time gets old.
I figured I would do that or just get a couple 1lbers and refill them a couple times

You only get about 8 or 10 refills though don't you? After that there too much moisture

I have the big buddy and don't regret it. when im going large tent large scale I drive out anyway so size and weight aren't a factor. but when you have a strong wind and fighting to get things set up... turn on the big buddy and Bam! its warm right now!!!!  then you can turn it down.    the one thing that turns most people off of trying ice fishing is the thought of the cold.  Just sayin....
until I figure out how to fish for a living, I live to fish!!

That condensation was the problem I had with my Cabellas 5 sided 360 degree shanty. That has built i vent openings and it was still dripping inside.
