Nils power point with ice gator?
« on: Dec 21, 2014, 02:25 PM »
Hey everyone. A few years back I won an ice gator attacker 2. So I went and bought myself a Nils hand auger having never owned a hand side before. I figured use it normal and when it gets thick I'll use the power head. I know you're not supposed to use any down pressure with the Nils but the head is pretty heavy. I was slightly disappointed that I had to have the blades resharpened after only maybe a year and a half. I was just wondering if maybe using the power head with the standard Nils wore out the blades. Would it be worth my time to buy the power point for when I use the gator?

I'm on my fourth year with my Icegator using the 8" Nils auger. Also on the original set of blades. Mine is still a animal on the ice even with dull blades, still the fastest auger on the ice. My buddy has the power point, and not enough of a difference to justify change. Just remember to treat the blades with care. Always put the guard on, never bang on ice. Thats about all I can say. Other than you have the baddest auger on the ice. ;D

It still cut great with the power head but to use it asa hand auger it would skip. Is possible I guess that I hit some dirty ice. I'm always really careful how I set it down and store it. Glad you've had good luck. Didn't really feel like dishing out the extra money. Just had the blade sharpened so I'll see how it works/lasts
