Ice fishing camera
« on: Dec 21, 2014, 12:43 AM »
I am looking to add a camera to use with my flx28. I was thinking marcum but I notice vexilar has a kit where I can have a camera and my flasher in the same bag/holder. Does it make more sense to have both units together or keep them separate?

I only use the camers to find the fish I am looking for. Once that is accomplished I put it away. If fishing deeper water I will use my flasher. If shallow water fishing. I don't use the flasher. Using the camera has helped me identify fish that I am looking for and helps push me off of unproductive water-water that aint got no stinking fish! ::)

I think keeping them separate ...each has its place on the ice ..if its too heavy it would make hole hopping hard ...makes scouting almost impossible ...the camera for scouting , identifying structure ,fish ,types of weeds and what condition the weeds are in...the flasher for scouting depth , drop offs and bottom composition and fishing... I have an old Aqua Vu DT ...just got to heavy/bulky for scouting ...I recently got the Micro 5 w/DVR ... that in combination with my flasher should make for a more productive fishing season . If you chose a camera think how you fish/how you will use it...I wanted light weight and DVR ...most units have a video out port (some DO NOT) but try and find a mini, small or portable DVR is almost impossible ...Aqua Vu has units with built in DVR ...Vexilar has the DVR 100 which only works with their camera systems .

I run an Aqua Vu microcamera and a Marcum 2.0.

Both are small enough to fit in my coat pockets. When scouting, I drill holes (Jiffy LP auger) then drop in the camera. If I find fish, I use the 2.0 to check depth. I use a contour map to get in the general area then use this method to hone in on a spot. Works great for checking out new areas. Light and fast....
