showdown problem
« on: Jan 07, 2015, 10:23 PM »
we are finally starting to get ice in PA so I went to charge my showdown and it is not charging.  I followed the manual for long term storage, checked the fuse, and the wiring is correct.  I wonder if the battery itself needs replaced since it's about 5 years old.  I was also wondering if I need a battery does anyone know if I can get one at a local auto store or radioshack, or do I need to purchase one through Marcum. I want to fish this weekend but if I don't have the showdown I'm not going to waste my time

As long as you have the same amps, at least the same volts, and it fits in the battery box it will work.  How do you know it's not charging?  The indicator light on the charger could be burnt out or broken.  Another thing to check is make sure the leads from the machine itself are connected securely to the battery terminals.

You're proably right. The SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries only last about 5 years if you don't maintain them year round. Shouldn't be hard to find one. I know radio shack does carry them. Bass Pro will have them also. A lot of hobby shops that have RC stuff will have them too.

Is the unit dead, won't turn on? If you charged it a few times in the off season I would think it should have the juice to power up. I charge mine once in July during the off season & it powers up when it's time to hit the ice. If your battery isn't even taking a charge & you've ruled out all other possibilities, then I say the battery is shot. Some sporting goods stores carry these batteries, as well as Batteries Plus & I think even WalMart has them. Keep us posted !!

You can buy any 12 Volt battery that fit's in that compartment that is 7,8 or 9 ah. I have a 8 ah I got it from Cabela's. Came with it's own charger and works great.

thanks guys I'm waiting for a call back from Marcum, but I might so go buy another battery. I know it's not taking a charge because the green light on the charger is showing when I plug it into the wall and I haven't charged it since july.

I'm glad it worked out for you.  Does your charger still have the green light on after the new battery is charged and the charger is unplugged from the wall and it's hooked to the machine?
