small lake outing today!
« on: Dec 28, 2005, 04:49 PM »
Didn't know which thread to post this under the conditions thread, so I figure here looks good!

Today myself, Hali-man, and 2 friends of mine, Fred and Gene took a ride down to Allen Lake!
Ice conditions were great all day with just minor slush forming at the end of the day. Ice is at least 6 inches!
So here we all are... Gene in my hut and Fred standing up in the background talking to Hali-man.....

Fishing was pretty slow... I caught 2 baby perch and a baby gill (were talking 3 inches max!  :-\ ). And then I went to check my tip-ups because they have not been firing lately! Well, sure enough when i got out there I had one on that didnt fire the flag!....  It's not too clear of a ruler but the fish is 13 3/4"....

Heres me holding it pretty for the camera!   ;D  ....

Later on as we were about to leave, Gene was walking to his tip-ups and a flag went off...

Didnt have the ruler for that one because it had left... but i gave it all of 16 inches, maybe even 17!
Here he is, holding it up so he had something to show the dis-believing wife...lol

We all had a fun day out there... no more fish bothered us  :'(  but it was still a fun day!
The wizard even stopped by to see how we were doing! He hung around for a bit and chatted with us, even gave us a couple tips about the lake which lead us to the second fish shown... Thanks Wizard!  ;)

Hali-man.... We didnt get lost on the way home! It was actually very easy and Gene knows the way around once we got on the main roads!
Glad i wasnt driving though... I was sceptical of the roads we were on a few times. I said "we're lost", Gene said "no way man"....lol  ;D

I got a nice "curved" ruler you can borrow, at least that way we'll be able to read the numbers on the ruler!!!!

Looks like hali-man is ready to dig out the secret jig for Fred back there.

Alas, there was no secret jig today.  :-\
I barely got out of there without a skunk tied to my truck bumper...

If that ruler had been mine... it would have been FLAT and very readable!
Unfortunately I had to borrow that one!  :-\
Didnt realize I didnt have mine, but it is for sure going in the box today!  ;D
I guess I deserved that one ICEGEEK, but I'd still take that ruler because it magically adds length to the fish...lol  ;D

Forgot to mention in my above pictorial that MR. GREENJEANS came out to visit us too...
but he was pretty cool, just checked lisence and if we had names on tip-ups (but even that he did from a distance).
He was more concerned about a 4 wheeler that was ridint the dike right towards him!
The guy was with a friend which was somewhere else at the time and they were cutting out a snowmobile trail around there. Heard the ECO yelling at him about a permit and he told him that his buddy had it!

Hope he wasnt trying to screw with the nice occifer!   :o

The reason I originally posted about MR. GREENJEANS was, because in all my years so far of hunting and fishing, that was only my second time ever being asked for lisence!

Anyways... It was a fun day! And there was a kinda secret jig for me, but all it caught yesterday was the dinks... thanks BJI!   ;D They werent big fish but at least i pulled something from there!

Nice fish guys ;D. Always a plus when landing a few. As for Mr. greenjeans, I think I have a special scent because they alway find me on the ice. never in the boat or hunting but i've been checked a number of times hardwater fishing at Honeoye, chataqua, Silver,  even the Audubon off the 990 which hold some nice crappie. well if you would like the scent for all season just rub against me, lol, i cant sneeze in the woods or on the water without "mr. greenjeans" finding me, sometimes he leaves me feeling violated :o ive had to do everything for them except strip, but now that i say that if you see a naked guy on the ice itll probably be me

archbishop, LOL, thanks for the laugh. I needed it after reading the post i just got off of. I may get checked once in a while but i don't mind at all. I think it's a good thing and i think you'll agree as by reading your post's i can tell your a stright up guy with lots of knowledge and experience. After showing my license Iusually end up talking to the greenjeans guys for a while too, as well as offering a little hot coffee/ hot chocolate if i have some available. I get alot of good info. from these guys/girls and for the most part they are all very civil and educated . Stay On top, Utes

I would have like to talk to this officer a bit longer than we did...
but he was pretty hot on the trail of the guy with the 4 wheeler!
I just hope the guy wasnt B/S'ing him...lol!

ARCH,....  I wouldnt reccomend ice fishing naked!
Too many things could happen either way...
you could permanently do damage to fishing in the waters forever, or....
you might tease a big pike or muskie into biting a certain dangling worm!  ;)

Either way... not a good turnout!...lol  ;D  :D
