strikemaster honda lite
« on: Nov 21, 2014, 06:38 PM »
So I finally got my undecided self to pull the trigger on a new auger this year, read a million reviews on ever auger available it seems haha. After much consideration i was narrowed down to two auger setups, tanaka/nils/mora, or the strikemaster honda, weight was my biggest issue, wanted something light and user friendly. I can honestly say Im not fond of the loud stinking two stroke motors but i know many of them are very proven. Ended up choosing the honda lite due to no mixing gas, weight was reasonable and the honda motors have a good name. Out of the box im happy with the construction overall, my only gripe is the throttle linkage seems chincy to me, maybe its not an issue at all though. Got the auger assembled, put oil in, filled with gas, hit the primer about 8 times to get the fuel goin through and gave the rope a tug..... Thought i was gonna rip the rope out!!! Had noooo idea it would start that easy!!!! Idles like a dream, seems to have plenty of snort, and feels very user friendly (besides the primer location). Left it in the garage and started it one of the cold mornings recently, 4 primer pumps, one light tug on the rope and it purred like a kitten, now cant wait to get out and poke some holes for the real performance test!!!!

My buddy bought one and I spent a lot of time last winter operating his. Nice quiet easy starting machine. Not as fast as my old 2 stroke but a whole lot more torque. I actually drilled into a stick frozen in and it actually ripped the handles out of my hands lol.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

I hope you have better luck than I did with mine. Bought it last night, went fishing this morning. After 8 minutes of drilling 2 holes I said forget it. I wanted something lighter then my Z71 and like you saw the Honda motor and grabbed it. It started and ran great but when I want to drill holes I want something that don't take forever and wont ware you out. I took it back this afternoon,I'll stick with my Eskimo.
 Good luck
