Just wondering if anyone has been out to dief lately particularly Coteau bay and if you can drive out on the ice.

Thanks probably will change my plan for tomorrow. Wanted to go somewhere to try for some eyes . Was out at Hanley last week and did o.k. on some pike. Landed 2 and had 6 more on for the afternoon. Might try Zelma instead of dief.

I get to answer my own question . Took the family out fishing today and started out going to Dief. There is still open water in front of the turbines along the dam  (not a surprise this time of the year) and the ice looked very inconsistent except for the east pump house. Went over to Coteau bay and drilled a few holes just out from the boat launch. The ice was 12" where i drilled the first hole but only about 7" in the second which was drilled about 10' away. We wanted to make a good day of this so it was off to Broderick where I knew we could drive on safely and set up the shack. This turned out to be a good decision. The fishing was fairly steady for the afternoon, nothing big but the fishing was fast enough to keep a person sharp. We had our best luck using jigs with green rubber tails tipped with a minnow . The people about 50 yards from us were  using 6" or7" anchovies on tipups. They caught a few very nice size pike and did see more action than we did. All in all a great day to be out.
