Rapala Titanium spring bobbers
« on: Nov 05, 2014, 03:01 PM »
Anyone know about the new Rapala Titanium spring bobbers? besides the fact that at $10 they are quite expensive.

$10 for two is a good price, take a look at the St. Croix, one spring alone is $12.

I'm going to take a look at them and see if I can mount them permanently on my rod, maybe a a little epoxy.

For only a couple bucks, I really like these type. Plus the St. Croix just look ugly.

No where near as sensitive as  the St. Croix, but the price isn't either!  Like they say" you get what you pay for"!!

Titanium bends easily and doesn't take a set like regular spring bobber material. Lasts and works very well....... yup... yup.

I bought a set of I believe the "light action". The store had UL and either L or ML.
Anyway,  I bought the stiffer model. They are almost as nice as the Frabill titanium and
a little stiffer, but half the price.  They are perfect for permanent mounting especially because I found Rapala's mounting system to be too big and bulky. A couple dozen wraps of black thread
and some nail polish - good to go. Im sure epoxy would work even better.

If you mount them like that, you can't adjust the tension for different weighted jigs.  I agree the mount looks bulky and cheap, but it does allow you to adjust the tension to the lure you are using at the time.

I only looked at mine briefly but in that time i couldn't figure out how to ope the release on the black plastic bracket things that are supposed to attach to your rod. Once on it looks like they will be pretty secure since they lock right down...I just have to e able to open them...

Those look very similar to the frabill ones I bought last year, and I was paying that much for 1 bobber. I love them. That is a great deal for a 2 pack, I will be getting some for myself.

I use the spring from a Bic lighter. Cheap and there are always lighters laying around for me to recycle.

Once I was able to get the mounting do-hickey open they were a snap to install.I like the fact that you can adjust them without moving the mount. I also like that they cost less than those of comparable quality.

I have and use the frabil one and it is really nice. If they would have made that a while ago I would have never bought my st croix rods with springs. Don't get me wrong I like my st croix rods, but it lets you use your regular rods and just add a spring bobber when you need it. I'm actually looking to buy another frabill one just I case they stop making them.
