Options for Frabill Trekker tow hitch
« on: Nov 19, 2014, 09:04 AM »
Hey everyone. Got a question for guys with the Trekker. I've been looking around for tow hitches. Frabill only offers the tow bar but nothing to really attach it to the sled unless you have the bigger models with the built in towing option. I've found a few on the internet like the Otter's and what not. Just wondering for those that have the Trekker and tow it what did you use? Thanks for any responses.

I just use the rope and if you want in to not slide when you stop slide some pvc over the rope to make it solid.

Everything I've been able to find about the Frabill Tow Bar was that it's only the bar and nothing to attach it to the sled. Guess I'll have to look around more. I won't be needing it this year since I can't afford to buy a 4 wheeler yet but looking at something for next year already. Never too soon to plan ahead!

I watched that video but I think it's a bit misleading.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Ice-Fishing/Ice-Fishing-Accessories|/pc/104793480/c/104735880/sc/104396580/Frabill-Universal-Tow-Bar/1236301.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fice-fishing-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100510%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104396580%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104735880&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104735880%3Bcat104396580

If you look in the Question and Answers section they say it is for the bar only. The actual receiver or whatever you want to call it is already included on the bigger shacks and you just have to buy the actual bar. Now, on Frabill's website there's a big jump in the price from what Cabela's is selling it at. I wonder if they aren't offering the entire towing "package" instead of just the bar now. I'm probably playing devil's advocate at this point but I did a lot of looking the last year or so and everything I came across said that the receiver end of the tow bar was built into the bigger models of shacks and not for the trekkers. It was basically either buy the big shacks or you're screwed as far as towing went. Since then I have found other options that I'll probably go with but I was just checking to see what other people have come up with. Thanks for the input though, it is appreciated.

I took two short lengths of chain and and ran PVC with drilled out caps (more support on the ends) over the chain. I then put carabiners on one side of each chain to attach to sled and keep pvc from sliding off. On the other end I hooked the two pieces of chain together with a quick link. To hook it to the wheeler i just put the end over the ball and run a carabiner directly behind which does not allow the chain to slip up and over the ball. On the sled side, i ran an eye bolt on each side with a nut then a huge washer on the front side, and a huge washer and a nut on the backside. I topped the pvc with a little enamel spray paint to make it all look sharp.

Total cost was about 20 bucks and an hours worth of time and it works like a charm.

Hey guys...I picked up a new trekker dlx a few weeks ago and bought the universal tow bar separate at gander mt. It comes with everything you need. The pivoting receiver that bolts to your sled, the tow bar, two pins one for connecting to ATV and one connecting to the sled, also all hardware was included. Only have to drill two holes in the sled which are already marked and dimpled on the sled. Very convienent and the small pivoting receiver stays bolted to the sled. Hope this helps.
