Is the mercury in dental amalgam the same as the mercury in some types of fish?

No. There are several different chemical forms of mercury: elemental mercury, inorganic mercury, and methylmercury. The form of mercury associated with dental amalgam is elemental mercury, which releases mercury vapor. The form of mercury found in fish is methylmercury, a type of organic mercury. Mercury vapor is mainly absorbed by the lungs. Methylmercury is mainly absorbed through the digestive tract. The body processes these forms of mercury differently and has different levels of tolerance for mercury vapor and methylmercury.

IMO, if St Brieux/Lake Lenore is to make it there needs to be some regulations put on the lake, for starters, barbless, then impliment slots to protect the breeding fish as well as lower the take limits, this lake gets hit hard from all directions and needs to be protected before it's totally fished out. Just my $.02

i look at it like it is different classes of people. There are the people that are conservation attuned that throw every fish back...then there are people that like to take the odd fish home to eat...usually eater size fish and not their limit.....then there are others that slob fish that take everything and all sizes..........then there are POACHERS. So you see......its all about how classy we are......

I think the regs we have are fine as long as people adhere to them. Many studies have shown that going barbless does not result in lower mortality rates on fish hooked in the mouth. It can help on fish hooked deeply but the individual doing the extraction makes a bigger difference. Barbless also might make it easier to remove a hook from your fishing buddy. I have fished the Lenore Lakes and St Brieux for many years and the walleye and pike fishing is as good as it ever has been. The perch fishing in Brieux has declined because the high water levels the last few years has allowed them to escape. The higher water levels are also responsible for better pike and walleye spawning.  I have been catching more perch and some nice Jumbo's in Lake Lenore. There are a lot of lakes that have great summer fishing but poor winter fishing. Be ethical, if you see someone breaking the law turn them in.

Old fishermen never die, they just smell that way.
