fish and ice reports
« on: Dec 26, 2005, 03:57 PM »
Was wondering if anyone had some info on box butte, sand lakes outside morril, or lake minitare(did i spell that right).  How is the fishing going and what are the ice reports.
Would appreciate some info.

Fishing is not about life or death, it is much more important than that! And all I have to say is FISH ON baby.

It hit 70 degrees here today. The warm temps. and not getting below freezing at night is making this a very short season. :'( The ice is off the bank on several lakes including Box Butte.

The only lake I have fished in the west was Smith (Sher. Co.) for about 5hrs. That lake is starting to get a lot of pressure. We impose a 10 bluegill with only 1 over 10" limit on ourselves. I would like to see the G&P set the regs that way but they probably won't until its to late. In the last 3 years I have seen a notable reduction in the older year classes of gills. There are plenty of perch for the table, those bull gills have much more of an impact in the lake than in a pan.

Send some cold this way.

Baiter,

just checked the S. Morrill pits this morning and there is plenty of ice. Minatare doesnt open untill the 15th of Jan. I am going to head to the pits this morning to chase the Crappie.

Hit up the pits the other day and caught only 4 rainbows, no crappie.  Yesterday me and some buds went to box butte, plenty of ice(about 16 inches or more by the damn) except you need a plank to get from shore to the ice.  Fishing was great, caught over a dozen pike, and to my surprise a nice 19inch 3to4lb. largemouth bass.  No panfish, was hoping for a few to cook up but oh well.

Are you serious?  I spent the Holidays in Lincoln.  Well over freezing the whole time, with plenty of sunshine.  I'm from Michigan, where we are still fishing, but can't believe you have ice out there.    It's great that you do.  Just surprising to me.
Happy fishing.  Sounds like you do well.
