Garmin Oregon 450T lake map chip options?
« on: Sep 28, 2014, 02:54 PM »
Hey Everyone........
I've got the $10 Navionics iPhone app, but I'm trying to sort out different Garmin handheld options.  I thought a person could look for an older Lakemaster WI chip, but they would become hard to find.  I'm looking at Ebay and there appears to be quite a few of them called that, and pretty affordable.  What am I missing?  Are they much older versions that don't have the desirable mapping, and I really wouldn't want to have that item?  Also I remember hearing that Garmin had essentially replaced that prior Lakemaster chip with their own mapping called Upper Midwest, but I don't even see that on the Garmin site anymore?  Who can catch me up so I don't pick up the wrong item.

I think that's yer critter...

I'm still using a 2009 Lakemaster chip In my 60CSX, so I have nothing to really say about it. I'm sure someone is using this much newer version.

Garmin is pretty touchy with what works with what...if the OP has a 450T, Garmin didn't list his as being compatible with this HD chip.

I'd call them, or they ALWAYS answer emails within 2 business days with meaningful info.

I just found out that you can install a free program called Garmin Base Camp. You can stick your map chips in your PC (if it has a spot for SD cards) and look at your maps on a big screen. You can import, export, plot new points, and enter coordinates manually off maps. It is super user friendly too. I really like the fact that I have all my waypoints backed up now in case I loose my unit. It is easy to get lost in the one foot contours on the tiny GPS screen. I like being able to see it bigger and plot my next trip at home on the couch.
