What is the best type of line to use on an inline reel for panfish? ???
2 or 3lb Trilene Fluorocarbon Ice is what i'm using.  line disappears in the water and helps with the finicky fish.  It is also more dense than mono so the jig falls more rapidly, which helps get your bait back down to the bite quicker.  Less stretch also helps transmit the bite up to your pole better, and helps with hook sets.

Use the same line you've been using on your other reels:)

Most of these 6061 style reels are the same with a different finish on them. There is two factories they are coming out of over in China. Open them up and look at the guts it will tell the story to you. From what I can tell Frabill and 13/No8 are getting their reels from the same place. Eagle/Wright is getting a nock of the orginal maker over in china.  So with that said I would stick with the 13/No8 or Frabill models.

I also feel a metal reel that you are going to be holding in your hand is pretty dumb for ice fishing. Thats why I try to stick with carbon/graphite framed reels. I also have two things about this style of reel which is called a Raft Reel over in asia. One you can't pencil grip the reel and still reel it. Pencil gripping gives you more control over your jigging motion. Second I am not a fan have a the rubber peg to adjust the friction on the spool to control your fall rate on the drop of your lure. They are often not the same length from reel to reel. It lack the adjustment range I am looking for when fishing smaller and lighter jigs.

Wouldn't the temperature be the same wether it's metal or carbon? It's not like the graphite reels are heated, they are still cold the same temperature as the air. Exactly as are the metal reels.

Definitely!

Big diffeance in carbon and metal on your hand when it's cold. My passion is surf fishing. On those cold mornings you will feel the differance in the surf. Wet hands and metal don't mix.

I am not a glove guy I want to be able to lay my fifer on the line so I can feel what is going on down below better. If I use anything to keep my hand warm it's something that Sportsmend Direct sells made out of fleece I can't remember the name right now. I will have to go in there site and see if I can find it.

On the question of isnt metal (most commonly aluminum) and graphite ie carbon the same temperature if your out fishinh on the ice .

this is really easy to explain with the simple idea of thermodynamics and the dissipation of heat from a material. Aluminum is often used in making of lead jigs because it is able to shed heat from it very quickly and rapidly compared to other metals. So what that means to us that ice fish is that the heat from our hand will go into aluminum and leave it very rapidly therefore making our hand colder faster. Basically it pulls heat from your hand.

With graphite i.e. carbon reels it retains and holds heat better then aluminum therefore helping keep your hand warmer longer in the cold.
