Generators on the ice

Another night fishing question.....What do you think of taking a small generator out on the ice ? Too much noise, vibration, etc? Sure would solve a lot of lighting and charging problems.

If your close enough to shore that you can string an extension cord, it's ok. If not, i would'nt recommend it. Besides the noise and vibration, the heat from it (and it's exhaust) will slowly melt the ice where it's sitting. I just about learned this the hard way!!!

Alternative for charging (DC) would be one of those jump start battery packs, I haven't tried it yet, but the wife got me one for Christmas that will jump start a car, put out 120psi as a compressor, and also has DC and USB ports for charging.  The things I don't know is how well the charge will hold up on the ice.  I imagine if you keep it in the truck, then put it in the heated tent it would do pretty well, then at the end of the day charge it back up with the Gen if your out multiple days.  Who knows, I'll post how well it works after I try it this weekend.
