amp in shack
« on: Sep 15, 2014, 04:10 PM »
So most of you know about my mega build of da man cave II last year well I had an old system weird in and the head unit went bad on me so I recently purchased a new head unit with 60w for each speaker (I have 4) so my question is has anyone ever wiered an amp into a stereo system in there shack. Or do they draw to much energy. Thanks

A buddy in high school had a 96 firebird with a system in it.  He was going for bass but if you were to crank it up while the car was at idle for more then a minute or 2 it would kill the engine because the alternator was working so hard to recharge the battery.

An amp to run what exactly?  If you just have some 6x9's or 5.25's the head unit should work OK for normal use.
I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess.

I have 2 6x9 one in the back and one in the front and then 2 5.25 one in back and one in front. But ya know when that good song would come on and I would crank it the speakers would draw to much and the system would stop working so I bought a new head unit with more power but I was just wondering if I should add an amp.

Couple questions first: How many watts are your speakers rated for, and are they 4 ohm or 8 ohm?
Did you phase them in properly? How many watts RMS is your receiver?

amps draw alot of power and if your running your shack off of batteries good luck keeping them charged, whatever amp your looking at should have the specs for it on the box but if it were me to get the most out of your speakers you have now just build boxes for them and seal them tight and put some poly fill in there
