Oooops, down the hole it went
« on: Feb 04, 2014, 09:45 AM »
Once again my old fumble fingers dropped my red and white golf ball down the hole. Luckily the 8 feet of water was clear. I dropped my retrievel magnet down and pulled it back up and out. This magnet can be purchased at Harbor Freight.
Over the many years I have dropped a plastic decoy, an ice skimmer and now my golf ball. All had a small bit of metal that a strong magnet will cling to.  ;D

a couple of things I don't get, a golf ball? and if it like a golfball I know of , what makes it able to be picked up by a magnet? I'm sure these are stupid questions, but i am an extreme newbie, got my spear , decoy,  4-5 days ago, and a hub today, going out on first outing sat.

Glad you got the ball back.

I will have to give that attractor  a try sometime.

I've had four pike into sight the last two days. This while using a spinning golf ball AND a 9 inch red & white plastic decoy. Three out of the four  came up to the golf ball. The ball was spinning by use of the "teaser". Do a search for more info on golf balls and the teaser.

Yesterday a 6 to 8 pounder stopped in for a look see. I took a shot and MISSED. That was the first miss I've had for many times out. Not counting a long sideways shot at a salmon cruising by. A true "Hail Mary" shot. ;D

I think most people forget that spearing is not fishing, with fishing you must get a commitment from the fish to bite your offering yet interest is all you need to achieve when spearing so long as you don't scare them anything has a chance to pull in a bruzer for a shot. My decoys that I make could hardly be called realistic but to be honest that's something I like because who doesn't take a second look at some one with 20 piercings on them or completely covered in tattoos.
