That sure was a warm, rainy spell.  Are you still fishing the lake?

The Champlain Islands still has 30+ inches of ice.  The problem is gonna be the edges not the ice itself.  We got a ways to go.

Fished champlain yesterday (just north of the sandbar)... Two 1st.
 1. Caught a brown trout.
 2. Wet feet (boots leak).

Good afternoon none the less. Brought home some nice perch.

Fished north of the Ticonderoga ferry crossing in Shoreham, on the Vermont side Saturday. The big yellows are in. Kept almost 50 between 2 of us, all 10" to 12 1/2". Really fat, mostly  females. Threw back at least that many. What was puzzling was the lack of pike action. Only managed one small pickerel and two average sized pike (4-5 lbs). Two feet of ice, but LOTS of water running down the holes. Almost lost two tip ups, and we had several flags that were tripped by the whirlpool/current from the water running into the holes. Ice is pretty sketchy near the access.

I fished cowbanks Sat 20 inches of black ice under the 1-3 inches of water/slush.
No trt or lls but did catch 15 perch with one being 13.50 on a minnow a foot under
the ice.

gogetthegaff... The brown was not very big (I'm guessing around 13 inches). Caught on a Fiska tipped with spikes. Put up a decent fight for a small fish... Kind of cool to catch something unexpected. Took a pic and back down the hole.

I'll answer my own question with a "yes!"
There were plenty of guys (and a gal) fishing St Albans Bay yesterday Sunday, catching white perch like crazy.

Ha!  I found the leaks in my boots too.  It was pretty wet.

I stopped to buy spikes at the store, and there was talk of a truck going part way through the ice that had to be pulled out.  There was plenty of ice for walking.  A couple guys had trucks on the ice, but they're crazy if you ask me.

I'm seeing all sorts of "advisories" about staying off the ice (ok my mother and my girlfriend keep pointing them out to me) so it makes me nervous, but I can see there's plenty of ice every time I drill a hole.

Well, I hope we can keep posting updates.  The rational part of me says to give it a rest, and trout season is just around the corner.  The lunatic fisherman part of me wants to keep eating perch.  :D

Headed to northern Champlain this weekend.  Probably doing some jigging, and run very few tip ups.  Maybe run one or two with a perch on a quick strike, and a couple with some mediums or large fatheads for whatever is feeling hungry, but that would be about it.

Fished West Swanton today. And I don't think it's very safe to drive trucks on where we were. Right near where we were fishing was a wide open hole big enough to swallow a truck. Still a lot of ice but the spots where the water swirled this past weekend really opened up. Still guys braving it today with vehicles, but we were shaking our heads watching them drive by.

Walked north from Sandbar today.  It was wet and slushy near shore, but I managed to stay dry on the way out.  Out where the fish were, it was good and solid.  The wet slush got me on the way back in, though-- turns out my other pair of boots leaks, too.  Beautiful day.  Maybe the ice will hold until trout season :)

I went out after work this afternoon and fished near the cowbanks from 4:30 to 7:30 and caught a few dozen yellows, most were medium, but did get into a few large-jumbos.
All of the liked glow in the dark the best and tipped with minnow heads worked best.

I chatted with a guy that drove his ATV out near Cedar and he said he was into a few whitefish...I'm thinking if the weather cooperates towards the end of this week, I might take the hike out there to see if I can find them or some of the trout that some were catching recently...
TIGHT LINES!
