Fished Mazonia South on Saturday with pretty good results. Made the walk to one of the back lakes with a few friends. That is a hump to get back to that lake, but has always been worth it. On the ice early and we all had tip ups with a variety of minnows, large and medium roaches. Fished everywhere from 30' to 5' deep. The northern action was pretty good early in the morning with at least a dozen fish caught. Most were on the smaller size with only a couple fish worth bringing home. There were a couple fish that broke off at the hole that were much better fish.
Tried very hard and drilled dozens of holes looking for gills but between five guys not one gill was harmed in this outing.
We did manage to get a few bass and two of those bass were pushing five pounds! Big Icehole and Good Times caught the two biggest bass I have seen in a long time ice fishing or open water. One was caught on a minnow and the other was caught jigging for gills and was great to watch the battle on a jigging rod with 3# line.
We hit a smaller lake on the way out with no success for gills and only had two flags go up.
