Electric drill adapter
« on: Nov 08, 2005, 11:59 AM »
Last year I bought a used electric drill adapter for $10 on a whim.  I used it with a  8" Strikemaster Lazer hand auger and an 18V Dewalt XRP.  It cut ice like a dream until the last revolution of the cut.  The blades would hang up on the underside of the ice and it couldn't finish the hole.  I realize now that the auger was bigger than the manufacturer's recommendation.  Do they finish the hole with a 6" auger?  Would it work better with a gas auger minus the powerhead?

Hi Auger

I am looking for one of those adapters, I have a gas engine drill that was given to me and I want to use it with an auger for the winter. Do you have a pic of the adapter. I tried to see if there are any on ebay but no luck.

Sturgeon,
I'm just in the process of learning how to post pics.  If I can get it accomplished quickly, I'll be happy to put it up for you.  Unfortunately, I'm leaving tomorrow for a four day weekend at deer camp.  I need to pack and grocery shop tonight.  I'm a chef by trade so I've been roped into "catering" an elk feed for about 25 guys this weekend.  The cooking gear at camp is very rudimentary, so I need to pack just about a whole kitchen and a ton of food.

Sorry, I got off track there.  In short, if I can do it without spending too much time farting around, you'll see it sometime tonight.  If not, I'll try again next week.  If you have any advice about posting pics here, that would speed the process.

Hi Auger

Not sure if I l know how but I will try this pic has nothing to do with the topic but it is a test.

Ok here is how I do it. You need to put your pictures on a site that offers free hosting. Such as photobucket.

When you are on ice shanty start the message and click on the insert picture icon. and this two IMG word in brackert will appear .[img]

Now go back to photobucket and open the picture you posted there and click on properties. Under properties there will be a line that says Address (URL) and it will have something like this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/sturgeonx/DenisstinytroutMemphr004.jpg

Copy and paste it in between the IMG brackets.[img]   [

It should work after that

Here is the link to a current EBay auction for the "Ice Kicker" Auger/Drill adapter built by Rod Chilcott . . . .

For each one of these that are sold, the "bidding" starts at 99 Cents.  I have seen them go for $10 and as much as $25.

Here are the links to the web site and demo video . . .

Video  -  http://users.adelphia.net/~rodchilcott/Video_Files/Ice%20Kicker%201%20Demo%20(short).wmv

Don't have one yet myself as I need a bigger cordless drill.  Hey maybe an excuse to get the bigger cordless drill.  Think the wife will go for it?? ;D

Thanks Fish Doctor

That is what I was looking for. I am not to sure about the new design with the flat bar instead of the round plate. As I can see the chances that the flat bar get caught in my clothes is alot more likely that the round plate that he has on the video. The bar is probably cheaper than the round plate.

Thanks Again

Hey Sturgeon,
I obviously didn't get to the pics last night.  Will the pics posted above do you?
I also got called into work.  I should be at the cabin right about now.  I'm about to slap somebody.

I was looking into these last season, but If I remember correctly there was a huge post on this same topic. The consensus seem to be that they caused more damage then good. They burnt out a few drills in the process.

let me know how you make out

HI icejunky

I am not planning on using with an electric drill though.

Somebody gave me a tanaka gas engine drill like this on

http://www.tanaka-usa.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=TED-210

and I plan on attaching an auger to it. probably cost me 80$ total and I got a lightweight gas auger.

I think it should work. What do you think

I have been watching them on ebay and 90% of the time they go for over 20$.  It's funny this guy continuoulsy lists these items yet guys keep bidding on them and watching them go up and up...why not wait for the next auction and try to get one cheaper. I usually only go up to 12$ (he chages 10$ to ship to Canada) then once im outbid I go to his next auction for the same item. one day..one day

Wow,

Looks like an interesting combo. The motor and drill unit certainly looks beefy enough to me.

The disk does look a lot safer to me than the bar, more expensive to make or not.

Let us know when you test drive it.
