Ice vehicles?
« on: Feb 13, 2014, 11:20 AM »
With snow getting deeper each storm..... how many of you fish with a vehicle on ice and what do you use. Its getting a bit deep for the quads on a slush day.    How many people abandon far walk areas when the snow gets deep?  Some of my spots are a very long walk pulling a sled with gear shanty auger etc.

Never used anything but I have my bosses atv at my house for the winter. Was thinking of starting to use it but I don't have much experience in deep snow with it. Not sure how effective it will be getting around. I would think under a foot of snow it would be OK, I'm not sure the performance if we have more than that.
It's all ball bearings these days......

I used quads and sleds but.....  I'm lookin for a Suzuki samurai to cut and modify into the perfect ice fishing vehicle.  They can be had for a couple grand in good shape.  A budget lift kit @ 200 bucks and narrow tires and boom.  A cheap side by side utv.  Spray the back bed w bedliner and its perfect.

That would be awesome.  When I still owed my Rzr it was the ultimate ice fishing ride. Bed was just big enough for all the gear and than some plus another seat for a passenger. Was great in the snow and event the slop. The 28" tires and lift kit I had on it helped a lot as well.  Now it is just feet power.

Maybe a close second to my overbuilt  wrangler...but yes an awesome very inexpensive option to a utv.  One could keep the mods to a minimum and actually keep it street legal.  My jeep is far from road legal w the lift and tires by mass laws and its my daily driver with no issues. A samurai has heat a closed cab and a bed.  Weighs a tiny bit more than a utv not much.  And can be had for very low $$$.
