Coyote Hunting on the Ice??
« on: Feb 14, 2014, 06:43 PM »
I'm assuming it's legal to shoot coyotes on the ice, but does anyone know if it's legal on Ninepipes or Pablo?

There's a lot of spots I hunt deer on the edges of lakes, so I wouldn't have a problem shooting a coyote on the ice, but I thought "no way" for the pipes or pablo as well

coyotes are big medicine on the rez...if you shoot a coyote here..unless you are a tribal member..and even if,,,,be prepared for some bad karma to come your way....

I thought non-tribal members can't hunt period on the rez except for waterfowl in the federally regulated areas only, everywhere else I thought hunting by non-tribal members is strictly prohibited?

Not only waterfowl but upland game also, read Pheasant. Not sure what you're considering federally regulated areas but it is also legal on private lands, and some tribal lands as the tribe now manages land kiddy corner from my folks (only a mile from ninepipe) for waterfowl and pheasant and people hunt it all the time. (Pheasants forever used to manage it but now the tribe has dug out ponds and flooded low portions for swapy areas.) I'm not 100 percent positive on the particulars just going off what I've seen as we've never had to venture farther than the lower 40 for our waterfowl and pheasants. It is against tribal law for non-enrolled people to hunt any fur bearing animal including gophers. So to the OP shooting anything in Pablo and Ninepipes is a big no no and any fur bearing animal on the rez is also a no no. On the bright side the tribe puts all their non-member regs in one book.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day working.

Lots of coyotes on and near island lake!
When there is ice on the lakes, I never make employee of the month!
