1000 Islands hotel
« on: Dec 16, 2005, 02:50 PM »
Does anyone know of a cheap hotel or motel that is open in the winter around A bay or Clayton. I know some of the bigger ones are open in A bay but I don't really want to spend a hundred bucks a night. Thanks.

When I go up to fish Eel Bay we always stay at a motel that doesn't cost much at all.  Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it-when I go up I just keep driving around til I find it.  You may wannna call TI bait store-they'd probably give you some good info.

in the town of carthage is a microtel that reduces rates in the off-season.we have stayed there in the past, decent place, and at the time i think we payed $35 for the room, it included the fridge and a microwave with plenty of fast food places nearby. carthage is about a 1/2 hr. or less to alex bay.
there ph. # 315-629-5000
hope this helps.

We stay at the NorthStar on rt. 12 at A Bay. Last year it was 20 bucks apiece for one room. Rooms arent much to look at but are clean. Also they have a diner.

The Northstar would be a good choice, not too fancy, but has good hot water and hot-water baseboard heat. It is much closer to the fishing than the Microtel, which by the way, is in Black River next to the Fort Drum gate. I think Bertrams Motel is also open year-round as well as the Pierhouse Motel/Restruant, they are both located in Clayton and are both also quite reasonable. during the winter months hot chow can be hard to come by, look for diners and Bar/restaurants, the Northstar Diner is good as well as the Pierhouse and O'Brien's in Clayton, and Foxy's between Clayton and the bridge. Hope this helps, WalPerPike.

The Northstar-that's where I have stayed.
