Attaching a sled to atv
« on: Nov 09, 2013, 08:47 PM »
Hi all

Is there an item rather than a bolt that will attach a rigid tongue to the hitch (without a ball).

Head to your local hardware store and look for a Hitch Pin in the size you require. My favorite for small sleighs is the hitch pin with the c-shaped wire retainer and a short piece of wire tying the wire retainer to my towbar so it can't fall in the snow.

Larger towbars for hardside huts can use a bigger diameter hitch pin, like those found on farm equipment. They've usually got a really high breaking strength to tow heavy farm implements, so a fish hut shouldn't be an issue.
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....

You might also consider bolting a piece of metal to your hitch spot, as an extension, so that when making turns, you won't bend / break your hitch.

I've been using a bent eye bolt a hair smaller than the hole for years. I put it in the vise about an inch or so from the top & smacked it to just enough to make it still easy to put in. with most of the weight past the bend it'll never vibrate out going down the trail.

a chain quick link might also work. It's like a caribeaner.
