Since I sit inside my shack, where it's not too cold,I wear Sealskinz waterproof gloves. They also have little "nubs" on the palm and fingers that allow you to  grab a fish. I like the fact that you can reach right down into the water with them and stay dry.

I think the fur lined mittens sound good- with the insulated rubber gloves on the side for working with tipups/etc. It's hard to fish effectively if you're uncomfortable!

We also don't wear them while fishing, but otherwise we wear the Frabill Task gloves - 100% waterproof & very warm.

Most of the time I wear fingerless, I use to wear the rag wool, but have switched to windstopper polar fleece, warmer, thinner and I just ring them out if they get wet. I carry many gloves/mittens, but most of the time they are all I need.

I highly advise waterproof gloves no matter what brand you buy.  Since the gloves are exposed to lots of moisture it's just a makes sense.

I think I might try that! I'm not much of a small game hunter but I have lots of squirrels running around my back yard...

The Frabill Task Gloves look pretty good, I think I might get a pair of those and some fur lined mittens and let you know how that works out! Once I figure out the gloves I'll be invincible!

I have the Ice Armor extreme gloves and have no complaints.  They are waterproof, warm, and not too bulky in my opinion.

I'm in the business of buying some new gloves for this upcoming season and was wondering what brand/style do you find hold in the heat best?
Thank you for the insight.

I like the Ice Armor Extreme gloves because they are water proof, have long cuffs to keep the water and wind out, and they have a pocket on the back of the hand for a hand warmer pack.

For me, it's mittens all the way.  I haven't found a glove that will keep my fingers warm like a good pair of mittens will.

I'm definitely a mittens guy... if it's really cold I'll add a light glove inside as a liner.

I feel like you lose sensitivity with gloves.  No matter what ones I have tried I can't use them. Its a pain for me to rebait and switch lures.  And with wet fingers from doing above its a pain to get the gloves back on.  Guess this is why I use mittens.

Your best bet. Get a nice pair of extra large mittens and a pair for thinner fleece finger less gloves.

The key is being able to get your hand with the fingerless gloves on inside the mittens.

When you tend a tilt you pop off the mittens and have the fingerless gloves for protection.

Striker second skin gloves. Great dexterity and grip and they are waterproof. Dip your hand in the hole to grab fish, then reach hand in bucket to grab minnow and back to fishing. Your hands never get wet. Hands stay warm. Nothing on the market like it.

I basically just use 2 gloves right now. I have some regular cow hide lined work gloves, and I have some ice armor outdoor rubber/neoprene waterproof gloves. I use the work gloves for just about everything exept when using a rod or grabbing fish from a hole. I am very cold tolorant as it is, but I never get cold hands. Often I just go without them. If I had cold problems, I would get a big pack of black jersey liner gloves for warmth and for when you want thin gloves. Then over those wear ice armor edge gloves that are mostly waterproof. For the really cold, like just sitting, snowmobileing, carrying things, etc. I love those big military "trigger finger" mittens. Those will fit over most gloves.

I love my choppers. I use a towel to dry off in-between flags and then into the mitts.
