Sandy Pond Cabin rentals?
« on: Dec 14, 2005, 11:41 AM »
Every year there between 6 and 14 guys that go to Sandy Pond for an annual ice fishing trip. We usually stay at the Irish Wigmam, but this year we are looking for a place to rent a cabin for a long weekend.  Are there any areas that rent cabins on the lake?  If there are other lakes that have good ice fishing and cabins please let me know.  We are from Pennsylvania.  Thanks for your suggestions, in advance.

There is a place just north or Port Ontario called wolf Trap. I know they rent cabins in summer and fall. They might rent in winter. I don't have their number though.

Sandy Pond!!!  What a great fishery. Fished up there this September for 4 days w/ our bass fishing club. We put up some incredible #'s on the scale. Caught countless LM, some smallies and some toothy critters all over the place in North pond. Spent all day in South pond one day. crappie, perch, lm, pike.  Would like to head up this winter. We stayed at the Wigwam. Nice place. New owner is very nice. Food good, Bar good and right where you want to be. Best of all reasonable rates. My only beef. Sharing the bathrooms. **censored**

Yeah, we wouldn't have been keen on bathroom sharing if there were other people there besides us.  We would like to get a cabin, so we can cook our own food and have a lil more room.  Last year, I caught my first muskie and it was on a tip-up.  If anyone knows of any other good lakes for ice fishing where we may be able to rent a cabin please let me know.  We are open to new areas even into Canada.

do like simco at cooks bay, yellow huts were nice, plenty of fish, good people.
Baits included minnows are real expensive up there.
Do like to hear about sandy though. lets us know what you find.
PS cabin on the lake for presidents weekend, sounds like tip ups from the cabin if your right on the lake, spotlight, relective tape. 10-15 min checks, fish on!!!

i rent my "spare" cabin in altmar(top of the salmon river) but from what ive read so far, you guys wouldnt be "down" with the facilities.  its got the range/fridge/wood stove/micro.   its the outhouse & lack of running water that brings the tougher breed to my place ;D   $10/night will do that i suppose. :D
however, if im around for the week/end (staying at the main camp) im more than happy to let ya use the shower/toilet/running water etc....
so anyway, is anyone out on the pond yet?  thats my main hang out come february.  got a 3 man frabill in the off season and im kinda looking forward to taking my first nap in it ASAP. 8)

Sounds like some of you guys should look into Black Lake.  It's not much farther from Sandy Ponds or Watertown.  The fishing on the lake is simply awesome for big bass, pike, walleye, crappie and perch.  There are many fish camps and cabin rentals on the lake for fisherman.  I'm sure some have to be open year round.  I did a search on the web under "Black Lake" earlier this year when we planned a trip for my fathers retirement.  Found a whole Black Lake website dedicated to accomodations up there.  Might be worth looking into.  I know I am going to try to get up there this winter.
