it should be and i hope to go this weekend it takes so long for it to freeze up there though becasue of all the running water but after wednesday  i will definately take a ride up there to check it out because there is a little rumor that there might be salmon in the pond

Taking a cruise up in the morning to see first hand the condition of Comet, will post the answer to the burning question..........hang tight men. No truth to that rumor (lol) of Salmon. They did put a large amount of fish in this fall, they are dying to make angler's happy. I did talk to a friend that said a very large portion was still open, and the ramp area was covered with snow ice. He wasn't sure what amount of base was black, the wind up on the other side of the mountain keeps it from catching as fast some years, this may be one of them.

was at comet at about 5 and about 100 chopped a hole and there is at least 3 inches of completely black ice it is crystal clear dont let is fool you it doesnt look like more than an inch but i was really jumping up and down and the ice didnt even move at all  it was dark so it was hardto tell if the entire lake was iced over but it was definately solid ice it also looks like someone was fishing out about 50 today just maybe jigging because there holes were cut with an auger
also went to browning pond on spence oakhlam line and there was 6 inches of ice there about 2 1/2 black ice under 3 1/2 whit ice but last night it got down to 12 BELOW ZERO here and already it is 6  i went out about 500 feet on browning pond
i really want to go to comet tomorrow morning but i cant find any one to go with went to check the pond with my unlce but then he said he should really do some other stuff tomorrow

there this morning, 4 guys fishing on 2-3 clear black ice. Would not venture to far from ramp. There are signs that some have broken through at the ramp. Parking lot not plowed.

hey flapjack i was just wondering if you got out on comet to check the ice becasue this afternoon i was there and there was 5 1/2 inches of clear black ice
i was wondering this because if you just look at the ice it doesnt look like there is a lot but there actually
a guy caught a 4lb 13oz salmon up there this morning and that was it all day there were still 2 people fishing when i got there
BuckJR it is usually slow up at comet

I actualy measured holes that guys were using. It's not a uniform sheet, more in some spots much less in others and much less as you go out further. First hand report from 9:30 this morning. I'm ready to fish it though.

i was drilling holes at comet at 5:30 this morning setting up there were 3 people in my group and at about 715another guy showed up and then later 2 other guys showed up the other 3 guys had a total of 2 flags 1 from the wind while the other was from the guys shinner
my group of 3 my dad, my uncle and i had about 15 flags
got four fish not great for 15 flags but better than no fish

but here is the best part the 4 fish were all salmon the first one was  4 lbs the second was 6lbs the third was 12lbs(34 inches long and caught on a 4lb leader) and the last one was 8 lbs  i caught the 4lber and the 8lber my dad caught the other too

it was a great opening day and it was worth getting there early and it was not a slow day for me
