last wed. night one of my daughters  and 2 of the grand kids stayed at a frinds house my daughter had warned the family that they had ther wood stacked to close to the wood stove the owner of the house told her that it was fine they had been putting wood there for years well as it turned out around 3 am my 5 year old grand daughter kelsi woke up and smelt smoke and got up she saw fire behind the wood stove and on the wall she went in and woke up her mother and everyone got out safe kelsi has a sore throat from breathing in the smoke thursday night she came out and sat on my lap and told me she was scared to go to sleep so i talked to her about the fire for a while and carmed her down i asked her if the smell of smoke or the noise from the fire woke her up she said no grampa someone kept shaking me and saying kelsi wake up when i woke up grampa no one was there some one from above had to be watching thank-you whom ever or what ever

Hardwatergrandpa--I am a grandpa,and your story brought tears to my eyes when I thought about what might have been. Thank the Lord for Angels and for the price throw in a couple of smoke detectors. I hope your story makes someone else think about this and perhaps saves more lives. Give your grandaughter a big hug and tell her you love her again.

Its a hard lesson to learn about keeping wood too close to the fire..and now I am sure that the wood would be moved...How bad was the house damaged??

I would agree with angels and messengers from God.    It sounds like it wasnt their time and like God has something He wants still to do with the whole family.

the owners son got the fire out before the fire department got there ,mostly smoke damage [iam sure when I see them open there gifts this year ill have to fight a hard lump in my throat thinking of what might have been iam just so thankful that Christ was in our Christmas this year or it would have been an x-mas may peace and joy be with all of you this holiday season

No decision there....God plays a part in our lives each and every day.  He intercedes at times and I think we all know when He is talking to us.  (Knowing when we are doing wrong, that's the guilty feeling we have.)  I could go on and on but sounds like that's not necessary on this board.  Glad we can be politically incorrect and say merry Christmas.    Grandpa, sounds like you already got your Christmas presents!  Children are such a blessing.....

As a firefighter/emt (from nh) I have seen similiar circumstances occur too often.   We have lost one house already this winter do to carelessness.  When heating with a woodstove, I can't stress enough the importance of proper maintanence that a woodstove needs. I am glad to hear that your grandduaghter made it out safely!

There are angels out there, I recently lost my twin boys at birth, one of the hardest things ive had to go through.  a couple of weeks ago my 3 year old woke up and yelled to daddy.  so i got up and  she told me that her baby brothers woke her up to tell her to shut the fire off.  I wasnt sure what whe was talking about  and blew it off.  So while i was up i went downstairs to get a drink of water and noticed my wife had left a candle going.  It got really hot and made a burn mark on my counter top.  My angels are up there and I sure miss them.

I certainly do believe that there are angels out there, I think one saved my daughter's life by stoppig her from running out onto a busy steet when she was about 2 years old. Amazing stories hwgrampa and tb. My prayers are with you tb.

Glad to hear the granddaughter is OK.  It's hard to lose anyone period, but this time of year is the worst.  Two years ago my perfectly healthy 17 year old cousin dropped dead from some kind of siezure 4 days before Christmas.  My aunt came home from work and found him laying in the living room.  I can't help but feel sorry for my aunt because every Christmas for the rest of her life she will remember that.  We are being taken care of from up above, sometimes it works out and others it doesn't.
