Flasher first.  That being said I have watched fish inhale and eject baits, minnows jigs and spoons with no visible or felt movement of the rod tip or line.  The bait went in and out with just a gill flare. I would have been unable to hook those fish if I had not seen the bait go into the mouth.
this post is spot on;we've had real finicky light biters the last several outings, and we wouldn't be eating fish w out the cameras.

Both have their uses.  You just just have to decide what is more important to you.  For me it was the flasher.  I picked up the camera to help to understand what you see on the flasher.

I am a graph guy. That being said, I run a Humminbird 788ciHD- GPS, graph, and ice flasher. Love it! And no issues with deep water, it will pick up small tube jigs in 150' deep water no problem. The guy I fish with has the X67 Ice rig, he does have to stay away from me, the Bird really interferes with his unit.

I now use a flasher and a camera. You will want to buy a flasher first. They find the fish and you can see exactly where your presentation is in relation to that. The flasher helps you eliminate unproductive water. If you see fish and they don't bite, move on. The camera can be very helpful too but mine don't come out of the case until I am on actively biting fish.

I'm gonna vote sonar. Either graph or flasher. I prefer the flasher view when I'm jigging, but really they both do the same thing. They are the exact same technology, just a different way of displaying the information. I'm buying a camera soon though.

fish with someone who has one or the other. Try them out. Wait till you spend a couple hours staring at a flasher.  :woot: :woot:
Graph is by far the superior technology.

Split screen of graph and graph zoom with my lx6 for all applications . IMO I can see bottom hugging fish way better and Gives a little more depth in what your seeing. I like the "history of what has happened I feel it helps with judging approach speed cause them crappies can come from a country mile quickly chasing bait up.  I know it isn't any different information but the way it is viewed makes a difference . It may not be for everyone but if you can give it a try and see before you get your own unit I would suggest that

Yeah or a lx-7 I saved the hundred dollars to help off set the cost of a new shanty . I was okay with the smaller screen size because it was  bigger the my old x67c.
But hey cannot say a bigger screen wouldn't be better! ;D
