I've never really understood the battery run augers. In my experience with batteries the & cold do not mix. Every time I go to use my cordless drill its dead then later won't hold a charge. This is what keeps me away from battery augers. Maybe the technology for them is better or different & I'm just understanding.

ion 6" will drill 144 12" deep holes; nearly twice as many as the 8" model. Great reviews, I want one. Reeds has them on sale for $450 free shipping/no sales tax

Ion uses Lithium batteries which is supposed to work better in the cold. I use my cordless drill with Lithium batteries on my Nils and the cold hasn't been an issue.

Lithium is more stable in relative cold, actually. It is recommended to keep your phone or other lithium batteries in your fridge, as that temp is near the ideal for those batteries.

Buddy bought a ION this fall . So far he loves it. Absolutely no problems and amazing number of holes on a charge. I believe they are 40 volt ion battery. Time will tell .

I used mine for the first time today. I love it. Punched roughly 75 holes with it and battery gave out. Ice was about 11". Cuts fast and quiet. The ion is not for everyone but for me i have farm ponds and small lakes, it works great.

I have been using a ION for a few years this will be my 3rd season It came with a 8 inch drill I don't like a hole that big all the time so most of the time I put my 6 inch Lazar auger on it (the ion turns the same as a hand auger) it works great drills a ton of holes. I do charge the batt a few times in the summer to keep them good have had no problems last Thursday we drilled over 100 holes looking for a brushpile to GPS it in. I love it would buy another. All my friends use it and leave there gas augers at home now.
